Metal weight calculator
Work out the weight of a steel, aluminum, stainless or brass plate, round bar or square bar from its dimensions.
How it is calculated
Volume (mm³): plate = thickness × width × length; round = π/4 × d² × length; square = side² × length. Weight (kg) = volume × density ÷ 10⁹.
Worked example
10 × 100 × 1000 mm steel plate: 1,000,000 mm³ × 7850 kg/m³ = 7.85 kg.
Steps
- Choose the shape and material.
- Enter the dimensions in mm.
- Read the weight in kg.
Frequently asked questions
What density does steel use?
Carbon steel is about 7850 kg/m³. Stainless is about 8000 kg/m³.
Does this include tolerance or coating?
No. It gives the nominal weight of the bare metal.
Can I use it for tube?
Not directly. Use the net area of the tube, then multiply by length and density.
